FROM THE SECOND WORLD

In Mexico, corruption has been systematically institutionalized for more than half a century. Diversion of resources, the sale of permits and licenses under the table and public licitations offered without consensus are some of the generalized practices in this country at all three government levels. These practices directly affect society in areas such as Education, Security, Infrastructure and Health.
A system that has been corrupt for decades spawns consecuences; I tend to observe what I consider to be manifestations of these consequences.

From the Second World explores the life within the Border region between Mexico and the United States focusing on details of the everyday life that are derived from the daily commercial and cultural exchange between the First and the Third world. While observing the cultural clash that is living in an underdeveloped country in an area that receives a strong cultural and material influx from one of the most powerful countries in the world while divided just by a wall.

This is not just another border story, related to Trump’s wall or even about the physical wall itself. This is a project that focuses on the peculiarities that spring off of decades of corruption, impoverishment and cultural clash in a society stuck between the First and the Third world.
